Overview

What is an announcement bar?

An announcement bar is a thin strip of text across the top or bottom of your store, used to tell every visitor about shipping, a sale or a code before they start browsing.

Barly builds the bar from a template and lets you change everything about it: one message, rotating messages or a running line, a countdown to a date you set, and a button that copies a discount code and applies it to the cart.

You decide where and when each bar shows. Pick pages, devices, Shopify market countries and a start and end date, write the text per language, and see views and clicks for each bar.

  1. Say it once, in the right place

Top of the page, sticky at either edge of the window, or inside a page.

  2. A real deadline

A countdown runs to your date and the bar then goes away, for every visitor.

  3. The right bar for each visitor

Choose pages, devices, countries and languages, and change the schedule any time.

Features

What a Barly bar can do

  • Four places on the page

Top of the page, sticky to the top of the window, sticky to the bottom, or inside a page such as a product or the cart.

  • Single, rotating or running line

Up to 10 messages of 200 characters in a bar. Rotate with a slide, fade or flip every 2 to 20 seconds, with arrows, or scroll them as a running line with separate desktop and mobile speeds.

  • Countdown to your date

Count down to an end date you set, as text or in boxes, with or without days. Put {timer} in the message where the clock goes. When the date passes, the whole bar stops showing.

  • Links and discount codes

Make the whole message a link, or add a button. A code button copies the code and applies it to the cart through your store’s own discount link. Nothing is added to the cart.

  • 12 designs and 20 icons

Start from Midnight, Snow, Sunset, Ocean, Forest, Sand, Berry, Lemon, Royal, Mint, Terminal or Festive. Change a solid or gradient background, text and button colors, your theme’s font or sans, serif and mono, size and padding.

  • Close button

Let shoppers close the bar. Choose whether it returns on the next page, or stays closed for 1 to 365 days in that browser.

  • Show by page, device and country

Show on every page except chosen ones, or only on the home page, products, collections, cart, search, blog, pages or a URL that contains text. Limit by device, by market country and by start and end date.

  • Each store language

Write each message, and its button label, for every language you sell in. A language without text shows the default.

  • Views, clicks and code copies

See views, clicks, closes and code copies per bar for 7, 30 or 90 days. Only the bar and the event are recorded, nothing about the shopper.

How it works

How to add an announcement bar to your Shopify store

Three steps. Pick a template, make it yours, then choose where it shows.

  1. Step 1 of 3

    Start from a template

Six ready-made bars, each with sample text and a design.

    1. Choose Free shipping, Sale countdown, Coupon code, Rotating messages, Running line or Holiday.
    2. Replace the sample text with your own, with up to 200 characters per message.
    3. Add a link, or a code button, to any message.
  2. Step 2 of 3

Design it and choose the place

Pick a look, then top of the page, sticky or inside a page.

    1. Choose one of 12 designs, then adjust colors, font, size and padding.
    2. Add a countdown with an end date, and an icon from the set of 20.
    3. Pick Top of the page, Sticky top, Sticky bottom or Inside a page.
  3. Step 3 of 3

Choose where and when it shows

Limit the bar, then switch it on in your theme.

    1. Choose pages, desktop or mobile, countries, and a start and end date.
    2. Add translations for each language you sell in.
    3. Add the Top announcement bar block or turn on the app embed in the theme editor.

FAQ

Announcement bar questions

What merchants ask before adding an announcement bar to a Shopify store.

An announcement bar is a strip of text across the top or bottom of your store for shipping offers, sales and notices. Barly lets you set its message, design, countdown, discount code and where it shows.

Create a bar from a template in the Barly app. For a top-of-page bar, add the Top announcement bar block to the header group in the theme editor, or turn on the Barly announcement bars app embed. Sticky top and sticky bottom bars use the app embed.

Yes. Set an end date and time, choose text or boxes, and put {timer} in the message where the clock should appear. The countdown runs to that fixed date for every visitor, and the bar stops showing when it ends. It does not restart for each visitor.

Create the code in Shopify first. When a shopper clicks the button, Barly copies the code and applies it to their cart through your store’s discount link, and the button briefly says Copied. It does not create codes and it adds nothing to the cart.

Yes. A bar can hold up to 10 messages. Show them one at a time with a slide, fade or flip, or scroll them as a running line with its own speed on mobile. The messages are text you write. Barly does not work out free shipping progress from the cart.

Yes. Show a bar on all pages except some, or only on pages you list, and limit it to desktop or mobile. Country comes from the shopper’s Shopify market, not their IP address. Exclusions always win over inclusions.

Yes. Add the text and button label for each language your store uses. A language without its own text shows the default message.

Yes, if you turn on the close button. You choose whether the bar comes back on the next page or stays closed for up to 365 days. That choice is remembered in the shopper’s browser.

One bar shows per place on the page. If two bars for the same place match, the one listed first shows. A top bar and a sticky bottom bar can show together.

It sends bar IDs and event names only: view, click, close and code copy. Nothing about the shopper is recorded, and a setting makes counting wait for the shopper’s analytics consent. A view is counted when half the bar has been on screen for a second.

One plan, Barly, at $1.99/month, or $19.99/year with annual billing (a 16% saving), with every bar type and feature included and no view limits. There is no free plan or free trial, and bars do not show without an active plan.
